Protein Digestion

Protein digestion plays an important role in analysing individual proteins or complex mixtures. The protein or mixture of proteins is treated with enzymes (usually trypsin) to break down the proteins into peptides. This results in so-called peptide mapping. These peptides can then be analysed by mass spectrometry, allowing conclusions to be drawn about the original protein. This is also described as a bottom-up approach in proteomics analysis.

Complete digestion is crucial for the reproducible and reliable analysis of digested proteins. Therefore, there are also products from different manufacturers to ensure reliable digestion.
