There are a variety of separation techniques in chromatography that are based on different principles and require specific materials. SFC columns (supercritical fluid chromatography) utilise supercritical fluids as the mobile phase to enable efficient separations with lower solvent consumption. Flash columns are used in fast column chromatography to achieve rapid separation and purification of compounds, often in organic synthesis. Thin-layer chromatography (DC) plates consist of a thin layer of sorbent on a support plate and are used to separate samples quickly and easily. DC bulk refers to the unbound sorbent used to produce individual DC plates or for specific separations.

In capillary electrophoresis, separation is achieved by the migration of ions in an electric field through fine capillaries, which is particularly suitable for analysing small molecules and ions. Accessories for DC and flash chromatography include tools such as applicators, plate development chambers, solvent reservoirs and detection systems, which are essential for precise and reproducible separation.
