Toyopearl resins, manufactured by Tosoh Bioscience, are hydrophilic macroporous methacrylic resins for large-scale chromatographic applications. A comprehensive range of media for all common modes of liquid chromatography, including ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction, reversed-phase, size exclusion and affinity, are available. They exhibit high mechanical and chemical stability and are stable from pH 2 – 12 for normal operating conditions and pH 1 – 13 for cleaning conditions. The resins are available in average particle sizes of 35 μm, 45 µm, 65 μm, 75 μm, and 100 μm for high resolution, intermediate purification, or capture chromatography.
For predictable results in scale-up, Toyopearl resins are based on the same chemistries as the analytical TSKgel PW columns. This allows the seamless direct scale-up of methods developed on TSKgel columns to Toyopearl resins.
Toyopearl Resins are available as bulk material in various packaging sizes. In addition, for most Toyopearl resins, pre-packed Minichrom® columns are available. The most popular TOYOPEARL resins are also available in RoboColumn® format.
New! Toyopearl Super A Resin is a new material that can be used in affinity chromatography. Compared to other Protein A materials, Toyopearl Super A Resin shows smaller elution volumes, less impurities and a higher dynamic binding capacity.

A lower elution volume increases the efficiency of the separation and also the concentration of the target compound. This increased concentration also makes subsequent steps more efficient, resulting in time savings.
In this example, the elution volume was reduced by around 30%.
Toyopearl Super A is able to effectively remove impurities such as host cell proteins (HCP), a typical impurity in mAb. This results in a purer mAb and makes subsequent processes easier.
Compared to other Protein A products, Toyopearl Super A is 50% more effective at removing HCP.
Toyopearl Super A shows a higher Dynamic Binding Capacity (DBC) than other Protein A materials. The DBC indicates how much sample can be bound to 1mL of material at a certain residence time. Since Protein A materials are quite expensive, the DBC value is an important economic factor. Materials with a higher DBC bind more product and thus increase the yield.
