IAM

IAM is the abbreviation for "Immobilised Artificial Membrane" and refers to a special material from Regis Technologies. The material consists of silica that is modified with an artificial phospholipid layer and thus simulates biological membranes. Separation takes place on the basis of varying degrees of interaction of the sample molecules with the artificial membrane, i.e. according to phospholipophilicity.
IAM phases are of particular interest for drug discovery. Based on the retention of a molecule, important conclusions can be drawn about the interaction with biological membranes in the organism and thus also about non-specific binding. Therefore, IAM chromatography is an important tool for discovering potential good candidates in the early phases of drug research.
