Reversed Phase Separation (RPS) UNIPLATES consist of a hydrocarbon impregnated silica gel. The hydrocarbon is adsorbed onto the silica gel and is not chemically bonded to the particles. The main advantage with this method is the compatibility with aqueous solutions (up to 100%). The disadvantage is that these plates do not tolerate non-polar solvents. Ethyl acetate or less polar solvents will wash the hydrocarbon from the silica particles.
Sodium Hydroxide (0.1N) modified Silica Gel G & GF UNIPLATES are manufactured with sodium hydroxide instead of water in the preparation process. This makes the plates more basic and leads to an improved separation of certain compounds (e.g., organometallics and some acidic classes).
Carbomer (0.33%) modified Silica Gel H UNIPLATES are special plates prepared according to pharmacopoeia methods for the analysis of mannitol/sorbitol. Caution: These plates are very fragile and are mostly shipped with silica flakes detach from the plate. These plates are not returnable!
Silver Nitrate impregnated Silica Gel UNIPLATES are impregnated between 5 and 20%. This results in an increased discrimination of certain compounds, particularly those containing carbon-carbon double bonds. The concentration of silver nitrate can be specified by the customer.
Magnesium Acetate modified Silica Gel H & HF UNIPLATES are prepared with 5, 7.5 or 10% magnesium acetate in the slurry liquid. This decreases the acidity of the plate and allows increased discrimination of phospholipids
Ammonium Sulfate modified Silica Gel H & HF UNIPLATES are especially made for charring visualization without the need of spraying sulfuric acid on the plate. The plates must be dried at 150-200 °C for 30 to 60 minutes to achieve charring.
Potassium Oxalate modified Silica Gel H & HF UNIPLATES are prepared with 1% potassium oxalate to aid the discrimination of polyphosphoinositides. The “F” indicates the suitability for UV detection at 254nm for all plates.
