SunBridge
SunBridge columns from ChromaNik are based on a hybrid silica gel with ethylene bridges in the silica backbone. SunBridge C18 is modified with a trifunctional C18 ligand and then subjected to a complex endcapping process. First, a double endcapping is carried out with TMS and the bidentate 1,2-bis(cholorodimethylsilane). The remaining silanol groups are then converted to siloxane groups at higher temperatures, resulting in a highly endcapped phase.

What are the advantages of the SunBridge C18?
High pH stability up to pH 11.5
As the SunBridge C18 is based on a hybrid silica, this phase has an exceptionally high pH stability. In alkaline conditions at pH 11.5, no significant shift in retention times was observed over 200 hours of operation. The endcapping with a bidentate ligand, which further shields the surface of the phase, also contributes to this.

Can be used with 100% aqueous mobile phases
Even with 100% aqueous mobile phases, SunBridge C18 shows almost no shift in retention.
Comparison of retention with other hybrid phases
The SunBridge C18 columns show higher plate counts and less tailing for basic and metal chelating compounds compared to other hybrid phases. The plate counts are even comparable with the 1.7µm particles of other manufacturers.
