Agilent Technologies / PSS Columns

PSS Columns

PSS columns are products for size exclusion chromatography (SEC) that were formerly sold by the manufacturer PSS Polymer Standards Service GmbH. Since the business takeover in August 2022, these products have been part of the Agilent Technologies range.

Technical Data

GPC columns for organic eluents

  • GRAM Columns are based on a polyester copolymer and were developed for polymer analysis with polar, organic solvents. The columns are available in a wide range of pore sizes from 30 Ã… to 10,000 Ã… and can therefore be used for analytes with molar masses from 100 Da up to 50,000,000 Da. Possible applications include the separation and analysis of polyurethanes, polyimides, starches, cellulose or other polar polymers.
  • PFG Columns are silica-based columns with polar modification for use with fluorinated organic solvents. They are available in two particle sizes (5 µm and 7 µm), four pore sizes (100 Ã…, 300 Ã…, 1000 Ã… and 4000 Ã…) and three different mixed-bed variants. This product range is suitable for analysing crystalline polymers, polyesters, polyamides, POM and others.
  • PolarSil is the brand name for columns based on polar modified silica for the analysis of light to medium weight resins and lignins with a molecular weight of 100 Da to 1,000,000 Da. The columns are available in two particle sizes (3 µm and 5 µm), three pore sizes (100 Ã…, 300 Ã…, 1000 Ã… ) and also as a mixed-bed version.
  • POLEFIN Columns are special columns based on a modified polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer and are suitable for high-temperature applications up to a maximum of 210 °C. The columns were developed for analysing polyolefins such as polyethylene or polypropylene.
  • SDV GPC Columns are suitable for analysing polymers with non-polar and medium-polar eluents. The basis here is a polystyrene-divinilybenzene copolymer. SDV columns are available in three particle sizes (3 µm, 5 µm and 10 µm) and a variety of pore sizes. They are suitable for polymers such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polycarbonates, elastomers and resins with a molecular weight of 100 Da to 30,000,000 Da. SDV columns also fulfil USP L21.

SFC columns for aqueous eluents

  • MCX Columns are based on sulphonated polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymers and are suitable for the analysis of strong polyanions (e.g. polystyrene sulphonates, lignosulphonates, modified starch, acids, alcohols or pectins) with a molar mass of 100 Da to 5,000,000 Da. MCX columns fulfil USP L22 and tolerate high buffer concentrations, a pH range of 1 to 13 and temperatures of up to 80 °C.
  • NOVEMA MAX Columns are based on NH-functionalised acrylate copolymers and were developed for the separation of cationic polymers. They are suitable for polymers with quaternary ammonium groups, polyDADMAC, polyvinylpyridine, chitosan and polyethyleneimine in a range from 100 Da to 30,000,000 Da. The columns can be used at high buffer concentrations, pH 2 to 12, temperatures of up to 80 °C and with 100% methanol or acetonitrile. In addition, NOVEMA MAX columns fulfil USP L23.
  • SUPREMA are SEC columns for analysing neutral and anionic polymers (e.g. PEO, PEG, pullulan, dextran, polyacrylamide, hyaluronic acid, polyacrylic acid or carboxymethylcellulose) and are based on acrylate copolymers. They are available in three particle sizes (3 µm, 5 µm and 10 µm), various porosities between 30 Ã… and 30,000 Ã… and as a mixed-bed variant and cover a molar mass range of 100 to 30,000,000 Da. SUPREMA columns are compatible with high buffer concentrations, pH 2 to 12, temperatures up to 80 °C and 100 % methanol or acetonitrile and fulfil USP L25, L37, L38 and L39.
